FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS DOWN?

Down is the fine layer of feathers that sits under the tough, exterior outer feathers of a bird.

These feathers are closest to the bird's body, extremely lightweight with a very efficient means of trapping air.

HOW DOES DOWN WORK?

Trapping air under a jacket or in a sleeping bag creates an incredibly effective thermal barrier, keeping the user warm.

IS DOWN A WASTE PRODUCT?

Much of the down comes from the food industry as a by-product of production. We only use duck and goose down in our products, However, down isn't a single-use material.

Down can be re-used, over and over again, upcycled into new products once its initial function has finished. So... where does all the old down go?

Sadly, the answer is landfill. But it doesn't have to be that way.

By collecting worn-out down products like old down duvets, pillows, jackets, sleeping bags, we can give this valuable material a new lease of life.

WHERE DOES RECYCLED DOWN COME FROM?

Our Recycled Down is diverted from landfills, reducing waste and reintroducing used down into the insulation market.

HOW DO WE RECYCLE?

Down and feathers have been recycled since the beginning of using down for stuffing.

In olden times, farmers took the down out of the fabric shell when their duvet was too damaged. They washed the down, added new down to it and filled it into a new shell.

They understood that down is precious!

Our raw material comes mainly from textile waste collection. We choose our partners for their

social values and the transparency of their business.

The target is zero waste aiming to solve a part of the textile waste problem. Different down and feather categories are sorted and find applications for various products.

IS RECYCLED DOWN ECO-FRIENDLY?

No chemicals are used in the reprocessing of down. It is washed with soap and the sterilization happens through high temperature in the drying process.
